The LEAP Leadership Awards Dinner was held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. California State Controller John Chiang kicked off the night with an interesting and informative speech, in which he addressed LEAP Board Members, Corporate Annual Sponsors, and Leadership in Action (LIA) Interns. Simultaneously, the Silent Auction – which debuted an online component this year – drew in hundreds of generous guests, bidding on everything from a 4-night Escape to Cancun, Mexico, to a deluxe-sized King’s Hawaiian gift basket.
David Ono, of ABC7 Eyewitness News, actively hosted the night’s dinner. The night’s Honorees were selected for their leadership accomplishments, as individuals and as organizations, in contributing to the empowerment of the Asian Pacific Islander community. Individual Honorees included Dado Banatao, renowned philanthropist and Managing Partner of Tallwood Venture Capital; Honorable John Chiang, California State Controller; and Bill Imada, Chairman and CEO of IW Group, Inc.
The recipient of the David R. Barclay Alumni Leadership Award was Sou-Wong Lee, Enterprise Change Leader and Six Sigma Expert at Raytheon. And, the Community Award was granted to Executive Director Tuyet Le, on behalf of her organization, the Asian American Institute (Chicago, Illinois).
