Community Programs and Research
In order to Develop People, Inform Society, and Empower Communities, LEAP offers numerous community programs that include workshops, programs, events, and internships. LEAP also publishes a series of research reports that evaluate the inclusion of Asian and Pacific Islanders at the highest leadership levels (Boards of Directors) in the private, foundation, and nonprofit sectors. Each one takes a team of dedicated volunteers and staff. Volunteer opportunities range from helping to promote and market the programs, assisting in research data collection and verification to administrative support.
Throughout the year, LEAP can offer interested high school and college students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in areas such as marketing, training and development, special events, public relations, communications, program coordination, and research. Internships would be unpaid but there would be opportunities to meet and interact with prominent community, business and higher education leaders.
Volunteers’ Leadership Blogger
This year, LEAP is launching its first ever API leadership blog geared towards preparing leaders to meet the challenges ahead in their respective fields. This blog is meant to serve as an open space for community members to share their experience, ideas, and knowledge on what being an API leader entails. These blogs will speak to anyone interested in improving their leadership skills, expanding their network, and enriching their views on API leadership across sectors at all levels. Contributors will include LEAP program alumni, interns, and community leaders. LEAP will also engage established professionals in an effort to further cultivate aspiring leaders through active discussion and participation. Entries will cover various subjects and themes, including business, higher education, non-profit, military, holistic work-life balance, public policy, international relations, civil rights, politics and law, community engagement, and many more.
LEAP’s Annual Leadership Awards Celebration
LEAP holds an annual leadership awards dinner to recognize the leadership and accomplishments of individuals and organizations who exemplify LEAP’s mission to achieve full participation and equality for Asian and Pacific Islanders through leadership, empowerment, and policy. Proceeds from the event are used to develop LEAP’s innovative leadership programs, cutting-edge public policy research and nationwide community building. This year, the gala will be held in Los Angeles, CA on July 19, 2018. Volunteer opportunities range from volunteering at the event or obtaining items for the silent auction and opportunity drawing.
