LEAP mourns the eight victims, including six Asian women, who were killed a year ago today in Atlanta, Georgia when a gunman opened fire in three spas.

We think about the families of the victims who were thrust into the spotlight in the midst of unthinkable grief and commend the bravery of those who have publicly spoken out in an effort to bring about change. A year later, and for many years to come, let us remember those we lost:

Soon C. Park, age 74

Hyun J. Grant (maiden name Kim), age 51

Suncha Kim, age 69

Yong A. Yue, age 63

Delaina Ashley Yaun, age 33

Paul Andre Michels, age 54

Xiaojie Tan, age 49

Daoyou Feng, age 44

Unfortunately, anti-Asian hate continues to affect our community, as there are ongoing violent attacks and murders of Asian-American women. According to a report published by Stop AAPI Hate, there have been 10,905 reported anti-Asian hate incidents and 61.8% of those cases were against women between March 19, 2020, to December 31, 2021. This alarming and overwhelming number confirms the immediacy of support and action needed for our community.

Together we can stop Asian hate.
