About our moderator

Carissa Begonia (she/her) is a second-generation Filipina American daughter of immigrants. She is a business coach and founder of CONSCIOUSXCHANGE, an equity-focused coaching and consulting company with a mission to help BIPOC entrepreneurs secure time, location, financial, and occupational freedom by building their own businesses.

Carissa is the former head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) of Zappos and has over 15 years of experience working on both the operations and the human side of business at some of the country’s largest retailers including Macy’s, Saks 5th Avenue, and Ross Stores.

Carissa holds a coaching certification in Emotional Intelligence (EQ) with sixseconds.org. Her work has been featured in TIME magazine and she is a keynote speaker and facilitator on EQ, entrepreneurship, as well as Asian American identity and leadership having presented at organizations including Eventbrite, Calendly, KPMG, Octagon Sports, Publicis Groupe, Kapor Capital, Pearson, and the YMCA.

Not seeing many entrepreneurs who looked like her, Carissa saw the need for more BIPOC coaches, consultants, creatives, and online service providers to share their stories and offer support from their lived experiences. Through her LinkedIn newsletter, THE FIRST, THE ONLY, THE OTHER, and Livestream Show, BUILT BY BIPOC, she teaches other BIPOC entrepreneurs how to start, grow, and scale their own businesses to break generational barriers and build generational wealth.

This program will provide opportunities for disadvantaged API students to gain professional skills, and offers support that can directly speak to API students who have mentors that may not understand the unique challenges they face as a minority community.

We will have sessions that discuss the following topics once a month from February - November

  • Resume building

  • Interview & Elevator pitch

  • Email writing

  • Story telling

  • Goal setting

  • AND MORE!
