Strategic Framing: Elevating Your Voice and Influence

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In today’s fast-paced and multi-channel workplace, where communication happens through emails, texts, meetings, presentations, and virtual platforms, how a message is framed can be just as important as the message itself.

For many Asian American and Pacific Islander professionals, communication often involves navigating multiple cultural norms around respect, hierarchy, humility, and relationship-building. These cultural strengths can be powerful assets when intentionally leveraged, but they can also create challenges when context, intention, or tone is misinterpreted.

This interactive workshop introduces participants to the power of framing, a practical communication approach that helps leaders clarify their intention, consider cultural and relational dynamics, and deliver messages that resonate across audiences. Participants will also explore how framing begins internally by examining assumptions, reframing perspectives, and reflecting on how their own experiences and biases shape communication. The session will also highlight the importance of cultivating trusted spaces and relationships where leaders can process ideas openly and practice framing before bringing messages into higher-stakes environments.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • Understand the concept of framing and why it plays a critical role in effective communication and leadership.

  • Recognize how cultural values and norms influence communication styles, particularly within Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

  • Apply a framing framework to clarify their message, audience, and desired outcome before communicating.

  • Strengthen their ability to communicate across contexts, including with peers, leadership, and community stakeholders.
