Workshops

Pivotal Moments: A Community Story

May 8th, 2025 | 10:30AM - 12:00 PM PDT | Virtual

In this Miro board activity, participants explore a timeline of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) history to ground themselves in the broader context of community evolution and resilience. The timeline highlights key historical moments, movements, and milestones that have shaped API identities and collective experiences. Participants then reflect on where their own stories intersect with this history, adding personal moments, family narratives, or turning points to the timeline. This shared visual becomes a living document that illustrates how individual journeys are woven into the fabric of a larger communal narrative. Through guided discussion, participants deepen their understanding of how history informs identity, belonging, and the ongoing shaping of API communities.

Remodel Minority

May 14th, 2025 | 12:30PM - 2:00 PM PDT | Virtual

This workshop will explore the origins and impact of the “Model Minority Myth,” which inaccurately depicts all Asian Americans as high-achieving, law-abiding, and seamlessly assimilated into American society. While seemingly positive, this stereotype masks ongoing systemic racism and drives a wedge between communities of color. Participants will examine Asian American histories and experiences while learning strategies to challenge and dismantle this harmful narrative.

Fireside Chat with Shannon Lee:
A Conversation on Resilience, Heritage, and Leadership

May 21st, 2025 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PDT | Virtual

Join us for a fireside chat between two remarkable leaders, Linda Akutagawa, President and CEO of LEAP (Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics), and Shannon Lee, CEO of the Bruce Lee Foundation and daughter of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. In honor of Asian Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month, Linda and Shannon will share personal stories of resilience, leadership, and the ways their cultural heritage has shaped who they are today.

In honor of AANHPI Heritage Month, join us for an art therapy workshop to embrace our unique cultural heritage. There will be space to explore our cultural identities, honor the values passed down through generations, and reflect on the stories that shape us. We will gather in community and use creative expression to celebrate the strength and beauty in who we are.

No previous art experience required - just bring your open heart and whatever supplies you have available at home.
